3 Stars - A western romance that was a touch darker and more dramatic than I expected. The story wastes no time plunging Kenna into danger and putting Max at her side, even if it takes quite a while to sort out their feelings. This isn't a light romance with the death of a sweet character early on and a plot that doesn't shy away from much. Kenna and Max were maybe a little more stubborn than their situation called for and made them seem selfish and immature at times. Overall, it's a solid secone chance romance plot though. And Ryan does a good job of painting their separate inner turmoils and tugging on heart strings. Kenna's quirky math skills and Max's family gave them each a unique relatability. Although nods to his brothers' romances in the series felt slightly overdone at times. My only real complaint was probably that the climax seemed to happen around 65% of the way through and I felt like I was wondering what was left to resolve.
