Welcome back! Whether you're actively hunting a job or just keeping your resume updated, we hopefully have another helpful tip to get your resume in tip top shape.
Resume Tip #43 - Don't sell yourself short.
A resume is a little like a sales pitch. You're presenting your best attributes to an employer in hopes that they will invest in you after all. Everyone wants their resume to be a standout, a piece of paper that sets a person apart from all the others.
In this way, it is okay to do a little bragging on your resume. Don't be afraid to include things you may not feel are relevant like tasks you accomplished but maybe you did not have to do them often.
For example, if you worked in a restaurant, you probably had a closing or opening shift at some point. You probably didn't open and close every day, or maybe just every now and then, but if you were trusted to complete those procedures, you should include them.
A similar case would be if you were sometimes trusted with a special project by a manager or supervisor. Include the details of that task you were especially chosen for! It shows that you were reliable enough to get an additional responsibility outside you or your team's daily work.
Don't be afraid to emphasis your strong suits and favorite job duties. Present yourself if you can as the total package. These little details will come through to your potential supervisor when they're reading and hopefully be enough to inspire them to call you instead of another candidate. Just do not step over the line and outright lie. Do not include tasks you did not actually accomplish or duties you never performed yourself.
Thanks for checking in! Next month we'll be back with another helpful hint. And keep in mind your local library is always a great place to work on your job search!
