Resume Tip #52 - Don't Clutter
We've said many times a resume should be one page, and we're sticking with it. You'd be surprised how many details might not be needed on your resume. Remember to keep it short and sweet and to the point. If you need filler information, skills and interests are an okay addition, along with an objective or goals. But keep in mind, managers who are short-handed on their staff are busy. Save some details about yourself for your interview!
Many templates now encourage personal information on your resume. Sprinkle personal details in sparingly. Nothing wrong with saying something like "Full time mom also seeking full time paying position!" but do not put "Full time mom of three girls, who also love ballet and soccer, seeking a full time paying position with flexible hours and a chance to use my education!"
Again, keep it short and sweet. Your potentional manager is likely to ask you more about your personal life, reasons for applying, and work history in your interview. The interview process is important for that very reason. It allows management to dig a little deeper than your application to see if you're a good fit for the team. So, save a few things to mention in your interview if you can.
As always, keep in mind your local library is a great spot to work on your job search!
