Welcome back, resume writers and job seekers! We're ready to share another hopefully quick and helpful piece of advice to make your one-page resume stand out.
Resume Tip #54 - Use Job Titles
Including job titles in your work history is important, even if they are not officially official titles. Maybe you just worked as a cashier or a cook and don't see the point? But your job title does matter to a potential employer and it's another chance to make a good impression! But be careful not to lie or try too hard to sound important.
By including the title of your job position, or as close as you can get, it starts by painting a little picture of your job duties. Think of it like the corner piece of a jigsaw puzzle. That corner piece may not seem important when it's all put together but it's a great place to start! Your title whether it's plain or fancy is a part of your work history.
If you have the same title as others on your team, that's perfectly fine, but maybe you have a one of a kind position! Even if you just put something simple like customer service representative or customer advocate or outreach specialist, you are illustrating your role. Remember, we can't all be something like a marketing analyst or a repair technician or a policy reviewer. But! Teachers, waitresses, CEOs, delivery drivers, pizza box folders, are all equally important on a team or to a customer, student, or fellow staff member. So, you deserve to include a title on your resume.
