Welcome back, resume writers! We are winding down our list of resume tips and this one is quick and painless...

Resume Tip #56 - Dress to Impress (Use a Professional Format)

Just like dressing the part for an interview, you want your resume to look professional. It is a first impression. Be sure to use a professional format and proofread (not just spell check) your one-pager. You want a clean and concise format and to organize it into easy to understand sections. For the larger parts like certifcations or job experience, use small paragraphs if you are running low on space instead of bullet points. If you are trying to fill space and look more experienced, consider using bullet points.

A lot of formats and templates are available online today, but many of them will cost you a fee. Consider copying it instead of buying it and using a free word processor or local library computer to complete it verses creating a paid account.

Colors, crazy fonts, sections, and shapes are tempting, but try to limit any quirky extras. First and foremost, you want to appear dependable and professional. That said, a touch of personality is okay too.

We hope this was a helpful recommendation! Check back throughout the end of this year for more resume tips and ideas. And remember, your local library is a great place to work on your job search!
