BCPL Resume Tip #57 - Stay on Topic
It's really easy to wander when describing your individual job duties or sections in the one-page resume. Be sure you are not rambling! Stick to job duties assigned to each position and don't include irrelevant things. If you were in charge of cleaning an area, just describe the tools and location. You don't need to talk about cleaning such as how you cleaned it. "Swept out stock room" is better than "swept out stock room where supplies were kept and cleaned around items on shelves." Avoid mentioning things you were not responsible for or just did every now and then unless they are worth talking about to a manager in an interview on a direct question. Also, do not include personal details about yourself like your habits or hobbies on a resume. Those can always be shared later in person.
We hope this was a helpful tip! Check back in next month for our final resume tip and remember your local library is a great place to work on your job search.
