Market Street Bridge - Your Input Matters

After 118 years of continuous service, less time for repairs, it is officially the end of the Historic Market Street Bridge.

Community members and constituents are encouraged to attend one or both public meetings regarding the bridge's replacement. These meetings will help discuss impacts and if we truly need this historic bridge replaced—or not. The meetings will introduce alternative alignments for a new bridge connecting Steubenville, OH at Ross, Logan, Washington, Market (its current location), and South Streets, touching down at WV State Route 2 south of US 22.

It is important to note, the West Virginia Division of Highways is seriously considering a “no-build” alternative scenario. There is no consideration for a bridge renovation and there is no guarantee West Virginia and Ohio will invest the estimated $175 million needed to build a new bridge. That is why our community's input is critical for the future of our region.

For these public meetings, the study team led by HDR, Inc. will prepare display boards and handouts appropriate for the project’s development. The information discussed will explain the project’s purpose and need, background/history, proposed alternatives, and probable project schedule. I encourage all attendees to submit comments. If you are unable to attend one of these meetings, the study team will provide information to me and other attendees on how to submit comments after the public meeting.

We ask that you share these dates and times with any invested individuals so that they may also attend and engage with the decision process.
