Please be patient with the upcoming delays!

If you have noticed throughout this year that delays have happened for new release books, you are not going crazy. The primary book vendor we work with, Baker & Taylor, was experiencing supply issues, which resulted in lengthy waitlists until our orders were processed, packaged, and shipped. Book vendors such as these allow libraries to preorder titles that will be released a few weeks before their release date. They would ship them to us early, and it would allow our catalogers ample
But we have even more bad news that delays will increase a bit. We have recently been made aware that Baker & Taylor, the primary wholesaler/supplier of books and other materials to libraries that has been in business for 100+ years, has laid off the majority of its staff and will be ceasing operations immediately. Which means they are wrapping up operations, and some of our orders will and will not be processed until the end of the year. We did not anticipate that this would be the case and had been under the impression that changes were coming to fix the delays.
This has left MANY libraries scrambling to find alternative suppliers for new books. This can take some time to accomplish, largely because those alternative suppliers are overwhelmed with the influx of new library business. Libraries are working very hard to make this transition to new suppliers as quickly as possible, but in the meantime, there may be some delays when it comes to the receipt of new books. Our Director is working hard to get older library book vendor accounts up and running for future orders. BCPL appreciates your patience, understanding, and support during this transition!
