"Our SMART529 program launched the 2025-26 “When I Grow Up” Essay Contest for students in K-5 grades.

This is the 19^th year for this successful contest. We have altered the timeline to better align with the academic year, so we hope teachers will find value in using this contest in the classroom. Attached is a flyer with more information for all K-5 teachers/principals/counselors.

Students and teachers can enter now at SMART529.com. If you have any questions, please reach out the West Virginia State Treasurer’s Office.

The deadline is Dec. 12, 2025. (Winners will be notified in early spring.)"
