Resume Tip #58 - Be Yourself
Of course when filling out a professional resume, you want to be polished and paint yourself in the best possible light. But remember, you are making a first impression on a potential supervisor, HR manager, or even a coworker you may work with for years. You want it to be truthful. Don't exaggerate your responsibilities too much or give in to the temptation to put things in your history that you didn't actually do. No one wants to waste their time at a job that's not a good fit for them personally.
Your resume is merely a quick reflection of your work history, education, goals, and trusted former coworkers as references. Don't put in too many personal details, save that for the interview, but be clear and honest as an employer will appreciate that. Your resume is your own and no one else's, so make sure you keep that in mind when writing it. You just might stand out from other job candidates because of that.
As always, even if you're far from Brooke County Libraries, your local library likely has great job search resources available to you. It's a wonderful place to work on your job hunt!
