3 Stars - Having not tried this author in awhile, the plot was my main reason for choosing this legal thriller. I admit maybe my bar was set a little high. I liked that it reminded me some of The Rainmaker, but ultimately, I didn't care much for Simon. When the main character's viewpoint on everything colors every scene as much as this did, it's kind of important to like them, at least basically as a person. He was a lawyer and they know lots of shady tricks and maybe have bad marriages, etc. The plot felt buried in a lot of unwarranted dialouge and details. I don't mind descriptiveness. But if Simon doesn't even like his teenage sons and I don't even know what anyone looks like, is the image of them using headphones at the dinner table worth a paragraph? Now, the whodunit part is probably what sucked most of us to this book. It was teasing us throughout most of the story. But it packed a light punch compared to all the endless details. A shorter version of this book would've probably been an easier and more interesting read. Some of the tried and true Grisham staples are here for big fans at least.
