3.5 Stars - In spite of the fact, Grippando was writing domestic and twisty thrillers way before it was mainstream, some interest in his books seem to have fallen away. On one hand, it's unfortunate because he's a very talented writer and he created a great cast of characters decades ago. On the other, it's hard to get past a few things. His stories are much better when he sticks to a simple concept like piracy or self defense rather than politics. And if the story focused more on the evidence and the 5th amendment, it probably would not have needed to be so convulted at times. And he should stop toying with the series' past books timelines and the characters so much. That's annoying to those of us who don't just grab these at the airport for a plane book. Don't make this the first one in the series you try because even the last few books were much better. Regardless, this is another page turner with some humor and it's almost all entirely new material from the rest of the series. And if you're a longtime fan, it's still a series that's always fun to revisit. Love to see the returning characters, indulge in the suspense, and enjoy a little bit of a whodunit at the same time. It's not too twisty or confusing for the sake of being thrilling like so many mysteries lately. It's easy enough to read in a day or two, never a dull moment.
