Three Men in a Boat (To Say Nothing of the Dog)

By Jerome K. Jerome

Release Date: 1889

E-Audiobook Available from WV Reads!

3.5 Stars - A surprisingly hilarious period piece romp with a very forgettable plot but unforgettable characters and humor. This short classic read has something everyone will find hilarious. The story's narrator/author has so many good-natured complaints that there's one for everything and everyone. His two companions (plus the dog of course) reminded me of me and my friends despite such a different time and place for our misadventures. The unabridged audio narrator does a decent job of relaying this humor but it does lag in places. There's only so much actually going on and a lot of unwarranted details at times. Hugh Laurie's abridged version might be preferred for those who don't mind a slightly shorter tale. This should be recommended to any classic lit reader or those starting out for its simplicity and fun.
