Empowering Independence: WVABLE Advisory Board Update

The WVABLE Savings Program hosted a virtual Advisory Board meeting in late-April to share program updates.

West Virginia State Treasurer Larry Pack welcomed representatives from more than 20 organizations dedicated to advocating for West Virginians with disabilities. Treasurer Pack expressed his gratitude for the board’s commitment to spreading program awareness. Because of the group's support and partnership, more individuals with disabilities, and their families, are discovering how to save tax-free without jeopardizing critical benefits.

Advisory Board members learned about state and federal program updates, upcoming events hosted by members, and ways to reach more ABLE eligible individuals around West Virginia.

In 2025, WVABLE set a personal record for the largest growth in enrollments with more than 225 new accounts opened. Additionally, total net assets grew by over $2.7 million, reaching $10.8 million. Since the inception of the WVABLE Savings Program, more than 1,120 eligible West Virginians have saved and invested over $13.8 million dollars with current assets over $12 million dollars.

Why WVABLE Matters

WVABLE accounts are designed to provide more than just a savings balance - they provide security. Here’s how:

• Peace of mind: Save for the future in a tax-advantaged account while maintaining eligibility for essential means-tested benefits.

Flexibility with gift giving: Contributions can come from family, friends, or the account holder, and are generally not counted as income for means-tested programs.

Financial freedom: Use funds at any time for qualified expenses that enhance independence and quality of life.

Together, we are ensuring that every eligible West Virginian has the tools to build a more stable and secure financial future.
