BCPL A Book & a Recipe June 2026

Ready to dive into another delicious dish and devilishly good story? This June we're making Pineapple Upside Down Cake from the pages of Miss Julia Stirs Up Trouble by Ann B. Ross.
Let's get started!
Ingredients-
3 tbsp butter or margarine
1/2 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
4 canned pineapple slices
At least 5 Maraschino cherries as garnish
Instructions-
Preheat oven to 350F.
In a 9-inch heavy skillet, melt the butter with brown sugar.
Cool slightly and arreange the pineapply slices and sugar mixture and garnish with cherries.
Ingredients-
1/3 cup butter
2/3 cup sugar
1 egg, beaten
1 1/2 cups sifted cake flour
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/8 tsp salt
1/2 cup milk
1/2 tsp vanilla
Instructions-
Cream the butter and sugar until light.
Add the egg and mix well.
Sift the flour, baking powder, and salt together in a separate bowl.
Add alternately with the milk to the butter mixture, mixing well.
Add the vanilla.
Pour this over the pineapple and cherry mixture.
Bake the cake 50 minutes.
Turn the skillet upside down to turn out the cake.
Serve warm.
