3 Stars - A fun and twisty read, well-suited for Halloween or a dark and stormy night. This is first and foremost an ensemble mystery like the movie Knives Out. It knows exactly what it wants to be. So, whether you enjoy this may in fact depend on your favorite Hitch movies. If you love the quirky chillers like Rope, The Trouble with Harry, and of course Psycho, this might be perfect. My biggest pet peeve is one common to these thrillers. The constant shifts and creative but wild use of POV. We go from 1st to 3rd to present to past, etc. I find it distracting. The characters are more like game pieces here, such as Clue suspects, but they were at least unique if not particularly likable. The plot is convoluted and slow of course but it's kind of just all about the mystery. Early on, there's plenty of Hitchcock lore and title/name dropping for the movie buffs. For me, this was a bit like Alfred Hitchcock presents - not bad in small doses but never quite reached the peak of some of the movies.
