3.5 Stars - I can't say I'm a big fan of this particular series, but I did enjoy this entry. They're more like standalones but a common feature is one thing I'm just not crazy about. These have a friends and family theme that's cute and make it read more like chick lit than romance but they're all too long on account of some family drama. This actually had the potential to be a great cozy mystery. It had humor too, though sometimes a bit too heavy handed. But I'd like to cut out some fluffy stuff. Anyway, I loved Anna and Owen. Anna's a grumpy but secretly sensitive private investigator who gets stuck with laidback adrenaline junkie Owen thanks to the case of a missing treasure. This certainly had sprinkles of Shalvis stories of old that I could devour like candy, but she seems to prefer to lean more toward general or sappy fiction now instead. So, I waded through that and focused on what I found to be the fun stuff. Whether you like light romance, a cast of quirky characters including pets, or mostly violence free mysteries, this has potential.
