4 Stars - After ending on a bit of a cliffhanger previously, we dive right into a new and intense plot. For any flaws here, I must say this was one of the best of the series in a few ways. Jack is front and center and on almost every page. Theo and Abuela fans will probably be a little disappointed. But after many books over the years that felt like his clients or side characters were the story, this was probably more Jack than we've gotten I dare say since Blood Money. Andie had laid out a request/maybe ultimatum and asked him do less work that puts their jobs on a collision course. But Jack's going to be Jack. I didn't love all the tension between them here because they both knew what they signed up for already. It felt like wasted effort. But they've always been the two biggest characters for Grippando. So it was fun to see Andie investigating and navigating FBI politics while Jack was on ride with his new case, one solidly plotted and refreshing unique from his others. I didn't care much for the way everything was resolved, but I was definitely on the edge of my seat the whole read.
